Mini diggers are sold by operating weight, and the weight class tells you most of what you need to know: how deep it digs, how much it can lift, how wide it is, and what it takes to tow it. Here's how the sizes compare, with the matching Rippa models.
Micro diggers (under 1 tonne)
The smallest machines, built for tight access: through garden gates, between houses and inside buildings. Ideal for trenching, drainage, post holes and landscaping. Rippa model: the R06 micro digger.
1-tonne mini diggers
The most popular size for homeowners and small farms. Light enough to tow easily, strong enough for most property jobs. Rippa models: the R10 (Kubota or budget YOUP engine) in the DIY / ECO range, and the step-up R13 with a Kubota engine in the PRO range.
1.5 to 2-tonne mini diggers
More reach, depth and stability for farm work, driveways, drainage runs and heavier landscaping. Rippa models: the R15 (DIY / ECO) and the reinforced R18 (PRO, Kubota).
2 to 3-tonne mini diggers
The contractor's all-rounder: stable on rough ground, fast on bigger digs, still transportable on a plant trailer. Rippa models: the R22 and the 3-tonne-class R32, both PRO with Kubota engines.
5-tonne excavators
For small foundations, bigger excavation volumes and steady commercial groundwork. Rippa model: the R57 (PRO, Kubota).
